Eric S. Goetzman, Ph.D.

Professor of Pediatrics

Eric Goetzman is an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the Division of Genetic and Genomic Medicine. He also holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. Goetzman received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota-Morris and his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He completed two years of post-doctoral research at the Mayo Clinic before moving to Pittsburgh in 2004. Following completion of his training he joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics in 2006. Goetzman’s research interests are in the areas of metabolism and mitochondrial function, with a specific focus on fat metabolism. His research has enhanced our understanding of how post-translational modifications of metabolic enzymes controls their activity and function. His work is advancing the use of alternative dietary fats for the treatment of metabolic disorders. He has published more than 65 articles, reviews, and chapters in this area and related topics.
